Commonly and affectionately known as Kangaroo Paw, this Australian native works well in warm sheltered gardens. It is clump forming with arching grass like leaves which are light to dark green and up to 50cm long. Starting in spring and through summer thin stems form and from these the flowers are produced, which resemble kangaroo paws. They are best planted in full sun and with good drainage. They are an unusual plant and new to the Chelsea Gardener, but with the right care can be very rewarding. Price from £14.50.
